Dr Chukwuemeka Obinwanne JNR
Dr Obinwanne heads of the Cornea, specialty contact lens and myopia management department. Dr Obinwanne’s interests includes anterior segment diseases, keratoconus, myopia, specialty contact lenses, and the ocular surface. He received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Benin, Benin City. He also completed a fellowship in Cornea and Anterior Segment from the LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, India. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and is the first Nigerian to become a fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society, USA. Dr Obinwanne is an ambassador for the Tear Film Ocular Surface Society (TFOS) to Nigeria and served on the societal challenges committee of the TFOS’s Ocular surface disease: A Lifestyle Epidermic workshop held in Sicily, Italy in 2022. Dr Obinwanne is also a certified myopia management expert.
Dr Obinwanne is involved clinical research projects focused on scleral lenses, keratoconus, childhood myopia, contact lenses, ocular surface disease and cornea. He is also involved in international research team projects, white papers and meta-analysis with notable organizations such as the American Academy of Optometry-Cochrane Eye Vision research group (AAO-CEV). Dr. Obinwanne is also involved in intra and inter-professional educational programs. He enjoys traveling, good food, and spending time with friends and family.
